It’s been a little while since I’ve updated again. We’ve had a crazy couple of weeks here!!
Caleb’s grandma has been in and out of the hospital so his mom has had to fly in a couple of times to help out. Thursday Caleb’s dad drove up to meet Holly and brought the kids.
Friday Seth graduated from NTBI Waukesha and Zachary and Jon finished their semester. Jon came down to stay with us for this week before we leave on Friday for Durham. Poor Zachary has to work so he isn’t able to come to Durham for Christmas!! L
Saturday Jon, Caleb and I braved the mall crowds (at Woodfield none the less) to finish our Christmas shopping, and luckily we did!!! That is a big relief!!!
Sunday we went over to Faith and Daniels (Vern, Holly and the kids are staying with them) to see everyone and found out that Ruth had gotten bitten by a dog or cat (there was a scramble and we don’t know who bit her) It was hurting her a lot but didn’t look too bad, but 3am it was really swollen and they had to cut her ring off, but 6am she had a big red line going all the way up her arm so they knew it was time to take her in. After waiting at the Immediate care center for 1 and ½ hours to see someone the dr. took one look and sent her to the ER. She spent most of the day there Monday and was given pain killer and antibiotics and had a lot of blood tests. She was then scheduled to come back at 8a.m. Tuesday to see a hand specialist and after that get more blood work. When the hand specialist saw her he said they should never have let her go home and she needed surgery to get the infection out before it into her tendons or she could lose the use of her finger or hand. They admitted her right away and scheduled the surgery for 2pm.
Things were a little backed up so she didn’t get in until about 3. The surgery took between ½ and hour and an hour, they think they got it before it got to her tendons so that is REALLY good. They left it loosely stitched with drains in it so it can continue to drain, and they will be watching the line and her blood work to make sure everything is getting better. She will be in the hospital for at least 3 days and possible for the rest of their time here.
Ruth is doing well; she is on some good pain killers and is such a strong person. Keep her in your prayers still though; this isn’t really how she planned to spend her time here or her Christmas break. She will probably have to take some time off work when she gets home too until her hand heals, it could take up to a year for it to heal completely and the scar to be gone. Check out Vern and Holly’s blog for more updates and pictures.
On another note, we are headed to Canada on Friday afternoon so we need to pack and get everything ready, and then we have a long ride ahead of us!!
In case we don’t update again before then, we hope you all have a great Christmas / Honokaa (for my Jewish friends) and a Happy New Years!!!
